Nine supporters of a jailed candidate were yesterday (Jan 13, 2005) arrested and FIR lodged against 200 others for violating the model code of conduct during filing of nomination papers in Bihar, police said.
Supporters of Pradeep Mahto, an independent candidate currently lodged in Nawada jail, went in a huge procession to file his nomination for Warsaliganj assembly constituency to the sub divisional officer's office.
Mahto had taken oath in front of the jail superintendent and handed over the signed nomination papers to his supporters to submit it to the SDO.
Nine of them were arrested and an FIR was lodged against 200 others for violating the model code, which permits only three vehicles and four persons to be present during nomination, Superintendent of Police M S Khan said.
