BSP to go alone in Bihar, Jharkhand & Haryana Friday, January 14 2005 20:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) will go alone in the Assembly elections in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana, party supremo Mayawati today (Jan 14, 2005) said ruling out even "friendly contests" in these States.
"We will go it alone in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana. There will be no external or internal understanding or any friendly contest," she told reporters ahead of her party's National Executive meeting in New Delhi.
Asked about her "closeness" with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the BSP leader said her support to Congress was extended keeping in mind the interest of the downtrodden sections.
She said BSP was supporting the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) not because it was interested in joining the Government. "It is aimed at keeping BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) out of power," she added.
To a question whether underworld don Babloo Srivastava would join her party, Mayawati replied in the negative.
She said the executive meeting would review the organisational strength and the performance of the party in various elections during the past one-year besides taking stock of the latest political situation.
The BSP leader said she would ask her party MPs and MLAs to donate a month's salary for the relief of Tsunami victims.
