'Foreign' Sonia is a potential vote puller: BJP Saturday, January 15 2005 12:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) may have carried out a sustained campaign against Congress President Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin but it has come to accept her potential of being a voter puller.
This aspect was brought to the fore as a senior leader of the saffron party speculated whether or not she will campaign in Bihar against ally RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal).
"Sonia will have to campaign. She is the only Congress leader having voter appeal," the BJP leader said.
Referring to the speculation that she may opt out of campaign in Bihar so as to avoid attack on RJD, the Saffron party leader said, "If she does not tour the State, her party's candidates will forfeit their deposits."
On the Congress decision not to have a tie-up with RJD, BJP Vice President and senior leader from Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi said, "Let it (Congress) say it is going to polls alone to rid the state of RJD."
