BJP is trying to malign my image charges Mayawati
Saturday, January 15 2005 16:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Celebrating her 48th birthday today (Jan 15, 2005), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati charged BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) with maligning her through "false allegations" in the Taj corridor case and that she had used party money for personal use.

"BJP, during the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) rule, tried to malign my image by spreading rumours that I had bought land in Delhi's posh area in my own name and money from the Taj Corridor scam had been used for the purpose," she said after laying the foundation stone for the BSP Housein New Delhi.

Her attack on BJP comes after reports that the CBI has been advised by the Attorney General not to prosecute her in the Taj scam for "lack of evidence".

Terming the allegations as a "bunch of lies", she said that BJP had used CBI to pressurise her and claimed documentary evidence "were proof of her innocence".

In a bid to steer to clear of the controversy over BSP supremo Kanshiram's health and charges that she had kept him in captivity, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said, "It was part of the conspiracy of the Brahmanical forces against me but I will not relent."

She said that the BSP House, being built in the heart of the Capital, would showcase the history of dalits and inspire coming generations. "The delay in building the historic building was caused by BJP, which created several obstacles in the way," Mayawati alleged.

The party organised two-hour long colourful dance programmes to mark the occasion where artists from various parts of the country performed praising the party chief.
