Porayar (TN): The Tamil Nadu Government is setting up memorial parks for the tsunami victims in all the 77 tsunami-hit hamlets of Nagapattinam district.

Though they have lost their loved ones, the relatives of the tsunami victims want memorials for the victims to cherish their memories forever and had requested the State Government to build the memorial parks.

A memorial park is coming up in each affected hamlet. The Government is supplying coconut saplings to the relatives of the victims.

One sapling is planted in memory of each victim. Near each sapling, name of a deceased has been displayed.

Rural Development secretary Shantha Sheela Nair distributed saplings at Seruthur village near Nagapattinam today (Jan 15, 2005).

Supriya Sahu, additional secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, A D Baruah, Nagapattinam District Wildlife Warden and other officials distributed saplings in other parts of the district.
