AP Govt sounds alert across naxal-affected areas Saturday, January 15 2005 19:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Hyderabad:
As the sudden spurt in violence cast a grim shadow over subsequent round of peace talks between Andhra Pradesh Government and naxalites, the Government today (Jan 15, 2005) sounded alert across the naxalite-affected areas in the State and advised people's representatives not to move without police protection.
Home Minister K Jana Reddy held a meeting with the police top brass to take stock of the situation.
Reddy, along with the State Congress president Kesava Rao, also met Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and reviewed the situation. He also called on senior civil rights leader and a member of the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee K G Kannabiran.
Meanwhile, naxalite emissary and revolutionary writer Varavara Rao dubbed the two incidents as 'fake police encounters' and accused the Government of trying to "revert to the old oppressive system."
