Centre to discuss issue of greater autonomy for JK

New Delhi: The Centre today (Jan 17, 2005) decided to form a committee, which would hold talks with political parties in Jammu and Kashmir over the resolution passed by the previous State Assembly calling for greater autonomy for the State.

This was stated by National Conference President Omar Abdullah after a 45 minute-long meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today.

"The Centre will appoint a committee soon and we will also form a committee comprising senior party leaders who will hold discussions on granting greater autonomy to the state," Omar, who was accompanied by his father and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, told reporters in New Delhi.
