'People know why & who dropped case against Maya' Monday, January 17 2005 09:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bahracih:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday (Jan 16, 2005) said that people know who were behind the CBI's decision to drop the Taj Corridor case against BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) chief Mayawati.
"Is prakran par kiske ishare par kya-kya ho raha hai, ise janata janti hai aur aap bhi jante hain (you, as well as the people know well what was being done in the matter and at whose behest)," Yadav said to a question from reporters on the CBI decision.
"Our party General Secretary Amar Singh has already made public the party's views on the issue, he said.
Yadav, who was in Bahracih to attend a family function at the residence of his Ministerial colleague Waqar Ahmed Shah, also said that the formation of a Third Front was a certainty.
"Formation of a Third Front was the desire of the people and the party's (SP's) success in the recently-held bye-polls in the State was reflective of this fact, he claimed.
Senior party leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mohammed Azam Khan alleged that the scam case against Mayawati was being dropped ahead of the Assembly polls in three States at the behest of the Centre.
Khan wondered as to how CBI decided to stall proceedings against the former Chief Minister just on the basis of the observation of Attorney General Milon Banerjee without getting the approval of the Apex court, which had ordered the probe into the case, adding the credibility of the investigating agency had revived a severe beating following the decision.
