A sessions court at Chengalpattu near Kancheepuram posted for January 19, the hearing of the bail plea of the Junior Seer of Kanchi Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswathi, arrested in connection with the Sankararaman murder case.
The judge, S Vanangamudi, also posted to that date, the bail pleas of the Mutt manager Sundaresa Iyer and accountant Viswanatha Iyer, who were arrested on the charge of conspiracy and of tampering with the Mutt accounts respectively.
Police would seek custody of Vijayendra Saraswathi tomorrow at the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate court I, where the petition will come up for hearing.
Vijayendra Saraswathi was arrested by the special team investigating the Sankararaman murder case, on January 10. He was remanded to judicial custody at central prison, Chennai.
Meanwhile, the Judicial magistrate I Uthamaraja extended the remand of Appu A Krishnaswami and six other accused in the case - Arumugam, Senthil Kumar, Rajini A Chinna, Kathiravan, Anilkumar and Ambikapathi, to January 31.
Kathiravan's advocate complained that his client had not been given food and was brought to court in that condition. This was the case with most accused, he said.
Ambikapathi told the Magistrate that police had levelled a 'false' charge, that a knife had been recovered from him. The Magistrate then advised him to file separate memos to contest the grounds of the Goonda's act.
The papers pertaining to their detention under the Goonda Act were served on the six accused yesterday in prison.
