Kancheepuram:
The Junior Pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswathi, today (Jan 18, 2005) denied that a heir to him had been chosen by him and his Guru Jayendra Saraswathi.
When reporters asked him about it after he was remanded to police custody for a day this evening, he shook his head in the negative. He also denied that he had differences with Jayendra Saraswathi.
Meanwhile, Mutt manager R Sundaresa Iyer, whose police custody came to an end this evening, was remanded to judicial custody. Iyer, who was originally arrested in Sankararaman murder case, was included as accused in the case of tampering of mutt accounts later.
Police custody was sought to interrogate him in this case.
When he was produced before the magistrate, Iyer complained that the personnel of the special team asked him to affix his signature in ten blank papers and wanted that these papers should not be used for any other purpose.
The team officials told the court that they were only specimen signatures. But Iyer told the magistrate that the chief investigative officer in the murder case, Sakthivelu had also signed the papers and these papers should not be used in the murder case.
The magistrate G Uthamaraj recorded Iyer's statement.
