2 guards killed in Indian Embassy firing in Nepal

Kathmandu: Two security guards were killed and another injured in an early morning "accidental firing" in the Indian embassy premises in Kathmandu today (Jan 18, 2005).

Those killed and injured at the embassy at Lainchaur, Kathmandu were Indian nationals, embassy sources said.

"Two guards belonging to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were killed and another injured in an accidental firing that took place at the barrack within the embassy premises at 05:00 hrs (IST) today," Sanjaya Verma, Counsellor, Press and Information, said.

"It was an accidental firing, according to the preliminary investigations," he said.

The injured guard has been admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital at Maharajgunj for medical treatment.

However, the names of those killed and injured in the incident are not yet known.

The embassy is carrying out further investigation in the matter.
