Donation to PM Relief Fund touches Rs 517 crore

New Delhi: Donations to Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for relief of tsunami-hit people have touched Rs 517 crore as generous contributions from across the country continued to pour in.

The aid received over the last two days include Rs 4902 by Satish Sharma, who cycled from Pathankot in Punjab to Delhi collecting donations en route, a PMO spokesman said in New Delhi last night.

Public and private sector corporates also contributed Rs 1 crore during the last two days, he said.

The donations received during the last two working days totalled Rs 44.70 crore, with contributors including HCL (Rs 4 crore), Central Bank of India (Rs 2 crore), BASF (Rs 1.4 crore), Dental Council and Medical Council of India (Rs 1.11 crore each), Labour Ministry (Rs 1.1 crore) and Vijay Bank, RPG enterprises (Rs 1 crore each).

Contributions are also being received directly at bank branches and online and are being collected separately, he said. The online contributions amounted to Rs 2.2 crore.
