Kolkata:
An alert was sounded and patrolling intensified along Indo-Bangla border today (Jan 19, 2005) after a massive haul of high explosives, arms and ammunition by BSF (Border Security Force) personnel near Labangola outpost in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
The seizure of arms and explosives was the biggest along the border in the last two years, a highly placed BSF official said.
He said 47 packages of high explosives (not RDX), each weighing 125 gms, 198 electric detonators, two country-made pistols, 7.65 mm pistol magazines and seven rounds of ammunition were seized from two gunny bags left behind by a suspected Bangladeshi, who fled into that country when spotted by the patrolling BSF jawans on Monday afternoon (Jan 17, 2005).
The explosives seized were believed to be used in blasting rocks but were not RDX, he said adding investigations were on to find the motive behind the smuggling inside the country.
