No evidence of our Army's role in firing, says Pak Thursday, January 20 2005 17:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Pakistan today (Jan 20, 2005) informed India that it has found no evidence to suggest that its Army was involved in the firing incident in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir after "fully investigating" the matter.
Pakistan conveyed its finding to India when its Director General of Military Operations spoke to his Indian counterpart on the hotline for the second time in two days after the Tuesday (Jan 18, 2005) night firing incident in Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) talked to his Indian counterpart and rejected the Indian claim of mortar fire," military spokesman Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said.
The Pakistani military officer told his Indian counterpart that the matter was "fully investigated" and no evidence was found to suggest that any incident of firing has happened, Sultan told the private Geo TV.
"Pakistani DGMO told the Indian military officer that such allegations create tensions and the two sides agreed that such incidents should be resolved at the local level through flag meetings," he said.
Sultan said the incidents of firing along the Line of Control (LOC) used to be resolved at the local level in the past.
On Tuesday, while denying that Pakistani troops breached the 13-month-old ceasefire, Sultan had said that Pakistani soldiers too heard some explosions in the Indian Territory.
