HC restrains police proceedings against Vedantam Thursday, January 20 2005 20:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
The Madras High Court today (Jan 20, 2005) restrained the police from proceeding against VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) International Vice President S Vedantam in connection with the summons issued to him to appear for questioning in the Sankararaman murder case, till January 28.
The restraint order was issued by Justice M Chockalingam on a petition filed by Vedantam seeking to quash the summons issued to him under sections 160 and 161 criminal procedure code (CrPC) on January 21 and 13 by the special team probing the murder case.
Vedantam sought quashing of the summons on the ground that these CrPC sections empowered the police to summon only persons residing within the Vishnu Kanchi police station limits in Kancheepuram district, or adjoining police station limits.
