Friday, January 21 2005 15:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Jan 21, 2005) offered Eid prayers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Mosque in New Delhi.

He offered the prayers at 8.30 A M, sources said.

Greeting the people on the occasion of Eid'ul Zuha, Kalam has asked them to help those who were suffering from the tsunami calamity.

"The festival of Eid represents the noble causes of love, sacrifice and submission to the will of God," Kalam said in his message on the eve of the festival yesterday.

Observing that festivals were occasions for all to come forward in the service of humanity and try and lessen the pain of people in need, he said "this year's Eid is also an opportunity to dedicate ourselves to the cause of service to those who are suffering the natural calamity which hit some of our coastal areas recently."

Earlier in the day the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi greeted President on the occasion of Eid-ul Azha.

They spoke to Kalam on phone and conveyed their greetings.
