ULFA militants trigger explosion in OIL pipeline Friday, January 21 2005 12:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
The ULFA (United Liberation Front of Asom) carried on with its violence in Assam and blew up a pipeline of the Oil India Limited (OIL) in Assam's Dibrugarh district despite beefed up security in view of the Republic Day boycott call by the banned outfit.
The militants detonated a powerful bomb and blew up the 'dead' pipeline at Sarupathar Bongaligaon under Chhabua police station late last night, police said today (Jan 21, 2005).
As the pipeline was not operational and declared 'dead' there was no oil spillage but one of the pipes was totally damaged, company sources said.
The police are at the spot and are investigating into the blast, which comes on the heels of the series of explosions by the banned outfit on Wednesday that claimed one life and left six injured.
The outfit has called for boycott of the Republic Day function and owned up responsibility for Wednesday's blasts.
