Godhra report violates model code, says Mayawati Saturday, January 22 2005 20:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Taking strong exception to RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) president Laloo Prasad allegedly using the Justice U C Banerjee committee's report on the Godhra train blaze during campaign in Bihar elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today (Jan 22, 2005) said the report was released "in violation of model code."
"The interim report of Justice Banerjee should not have been made public at the time of Assembly elections in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana. It violates the model code, " Mayawati told a press conference in Patna.
Asserting that the RJD Government was "all set to be thrown out of power", Mayawati accused the RJD boss of making Justice Banerjee's report and "electoral plank to deflect people's attention from misrule of the RJD Government."
The NDA had appealed to the EC to impose a ban on the use of the Godhra report 'in any form' during the campaigning for the Assembly poll.
To a question, she said her party had decided to go it alone in the Assembly elections in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana.
Mayawati said her party would not release a manifesto for the February poll in the three States but promised that a healthy secular Government committed to uplift of the Dalits, extremely backward castes and the minorities.
She would embark on an extensive campaign for her party 's nominees in Bihar from tomorrow (Jan 23, 2005).
Mayawati said out of the 243 Assembly seats, the BSP had already released the list of candidates for 180 and names of candidates for the rest of the seats would be declared in a day or two.
