Five die after being pushed out of train in UP

Lucknow: Five people were killed and another was wounded when they were pushed out of a train allegedly by Army jawans after a brief altercation near Shikohabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh early this morning (Jan 23, 2005), police said.

Four jawans had been arrested in this connection, police said.

The incident on the Delhi-Kanpur section occurred when some passengers entered into a compartment of the stationary Farakka Express occupied by troops belonging to Rajputana Rifles.

Soon an altercation ensued and the jawans allegedly threw six of them out of the train, police said adding five were run over by a speeding train on the parallel track.

The sixth, who was critically injured, was admitted to hospital.

SP Railways (Agra) Raj Bahadur Singh said the five were run over by oncoming Sampoorna Kranti Express at around 05:00 hrs (IST).

One of the killed was a woman, he said adding three Army personnel and a BSF jawan had been arrested in connection with the incident.

An Army team is visiting the scene to probe the incident, the SP said.
