HC reserves order on bail pleas in assault case Monday, January 24 2005 15:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Madras High Court today (Jan 24, 2005) reserved orders on the bail petitions of six of the accused in the Radhakrishnan Assault Case, in which Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi had already obtained bail from the high court.
The orders were reserved by Justice M Thanikachalam after hearing arguments from counsel for the prosecution and the defence.
On January 3, the court had granted the Sr Seer bail in the case, pertaining to the September 3, 2002 assault on Radhakrishnan, a former associate of the Kanchi Mutt, his wife and an attendant.
The orders were reserved in respect of Kannan, Anand alias Anandkumar, Lakshmanan, Sunder alias Meenakshisundaram, Kumar and Bhoominathan.
Of these Anand and Meenaskshisundaram have since been brought under the Goondas Act and could appeal for relief only from a review committee, constituted under the act for the purpose, while Lakshmanan is not pressing for bail.
Anand and Lakshmanan have been identified as the two who carried out the attack.
