Assault case: Application for bail posted to Jan 27 Tuesday, January 25 2005 12:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
The application for bail by Kathiravan and Sundaresa Iyer, accused in the Radhakrishan assault case, has been posted for hearing on January 27 by a sessions court in Chennai.
When the applications came up for hearing today (Jan 25, 2005), they were adjourned to that date by the first additional sessions judge, P Devdas.
Counsel for the applicant, S Ramachandran sought the adjournment on the ground that advocate Chandrasekar, who is to argue the bail petition, was engaged in another case at a Chengalpattu court.
He said Chandrasekar wanted to argue the case on merit.
The City Public Prosecutor, T V Ganesan, however, objected to grant of bail to them, stating that they were not entitled to it, as they had been booked under the Goondas Act.
The Kanchi Mutt Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi had already obtained bail from the Madras High Court in the case, pertaining to the September 20, 2002 assault on a former temple official Radharkrishnan, his wife and an attendant.
