High time to root out RJD misrule in Bihar: Mahajan Tuesday, January 25 2005 12:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Ruling out possibility of a hung Assembly after the Assembly poll in Bihar, BJP (Bharatiya Janata party) today (Jan 25, 2005) asserted that it was a high time for the electorate to root out the 15-year-old "RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) misrule by giving a full mandate" to the NDA (National Democratic Alliance)-BJP and its ally, JD-U (Janata Dal-United).
"The possibility of a hung Assembly is bleak as people are prepared to get rid of the RJD misrule. We are confident of getting an absolute majority to replace the present dispensation," BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan said at a press conference.
Accusing the RJD regime of having brought Bihar to the bottom of development, Mahajan said, "Elections in the state are being taken in political circle of a great national importance. It is rather a historic occasion for the electorate to vote out the RJD of power."
"The present dispensation has absolutely no achievements on which it can fight the elections. The RJD leadership has only preferred to enact drama for people's entertainment to accelerating the pace of development in the state," he said alleging that the businessmen were leaving the state out of fear, youths were deserting for the lack of employment avenues and poor people preferred to go outside for livelihood.
Taking a dig at the RJD president Laloo Prasad for allegedly describing the alarming rise in kidnapping "as a world phenomenon", Mahajan said that change of power alone could check the criminal incidents.
Claiming that the NDA was set to gain from "anti-incumbency" mood of the people, Mahajan said the RJD together with its allies, including Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Left had shared 44 per cent votes while the BJP and JD-U combine pocketed 37 per cent votes during the last Lok Sabha poll.
"But we are contesting the elections in Bihar in a completely changed scenario now. The LJP and Congress are contesting the elections on their own without any alliance with the RJD and they will definitely cut into the ruling party's vote bank and people's response to the NDA is also positive, which will certainly pave the way for BJP and JD-U to come to power," he said.
"People's angers have taken a shape of silent revolution against the RJD and it is set to face a complete rout," he claimed.
The BJP leader said all top leaders of BJP, including its president L K Advani, former prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Madhya Pradesh chief Minister Uma Bharati, Shatrughan Sinha, would be coming to Bihar for campaigning.
Referring to the recent kidnapping of a DPS student in Patna, which has sparked a series of protest, Mahajan said, "It is unfortunate that the administration is yet to recover the boy while another student of a school in Biharsharif has been abducted yesterday 9Jan 24, 2005)."
He supported his party's demand for according a special status to Bihar for speeding up the pace of development.
