AP Cabinet meeting takes stock of TDP MLA's killing Tuesday, January 25 2005 14:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Hyderabad:
Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting today (Jan 25, 2005) took stock of the possible political implications of TDP (Telugu Desam Party) MLA Paritala Ravi's murder at Anantapur.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, took stock of the situation in the wake of widespread arson and attacks by the Opposition activists after the murder of their leader.
The Chief Minister explained to his cabinet colleagues about measures being taken by the Government to bring situation under control and to nab the culprits, official sources said.
The killing of 47-year-old Ravi, himself an influential faction leader in the backward Anantapur district, has come as a major embarrassment to the Congress Government as the slain TDP leader had desperately sought additional police protection fearing threat to his life.
Alleging "direct involvement of Chief Minister, his son Jagan Mohan Reddy and the district Minister J C Diwakar Reddy in the killing", the TDP yesterday (Jan 24, 2005) sought dismissal of the Congress Government and a judicial probe into the incident.
