Wednesday, January 26 2005 18:23 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Tirunelveli (TN): Veldurai, an accused in the murder of a former Tamil Nadu Minister, who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu and Gujarat police in a joint operation at Ahmedabad, will be brought to Alankulam near Tirunelveli within two days, a top police official said today (Jan 26, 2005).

DIG K Gopalakrishnan told reporters in Tirunelveli that Benny alias Benedict alias Arun and Veldurai were the main accused in the murder of former Minister Aladi Aruna.

According to a report from Ahmedabad, quoting police, the team managed to get hold of Veldurai while Benny died, after they consumed poison when the police stormed the place where they were staying last night.

The report said Veldurai was battling for life.

The DIG said special police teams had been formed to catch the accused and they had gone to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ernakulam, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Gujarat.

Police received information that the two were residing in the house of a doctor, a native of Tamil Nadu, at Maninagar in Ahmedabad, he said.

A team consisting of Sub-Inspectors Shivakumar and Balaji, left by flight for Mumbai en route to Ahmedabad yesterday.

The Sub-inspectors then instructed the Tamil Nadu special police team at Mumbai to go over to Ahmedabad.

With the support of DIG of Ahmedabad, Banjara, and ACP Ameen they reached the doctor's house. Two lady constables were with them and they approached the doctor posing as patients.

As the doctor opened the door, the Tamil Nadu police officers entered the house and arrested Veldurai.
