President condoles death of devotees in stampede

New Delhi: Shocked by the death of over two hundred people in a stampede at a temple in Maharashtra, President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Jan 26, 2005) offered his condolences to the families of the victims.

The President wrote to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and extended his deepest sympathies over the tragedy, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said in New Delhi.

About 258 devotees were trampled to death in a stampede at the Mandhradevi temple in Satara district of Maharashtra yesterday (Jan 25, 2005).
