Mumbai:
Indian short filmmaker Ashwini Kumar's "Little Terrorist", portraying the plight of a Pakistani boy who strays into India and finds shelter in a Hindu house, yesterday (Jan 25, 2005) earned an Oscar nomination in "Live Action Short Films" category.
The 15-minute film was screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa last year. Ashwini Kumar, son of Delhi-based fashion designer Ritu Kumar, has done a course in filmmaking in London.
"Little Terrorist" is about a 10-year-old Pakistani boy Jamal who by mistakes enters the Indian territory and finds a friend in Hindu boy Bhola even as Indian troops search for the "little terrorist."
Bhola's niece Rani objects to providing shelter to a Muslim and Bhola and Rani try to grapple with the consequences of their actions and their prejudices against the other community.
Bhola's only hope is the question of humanity that is divided by artificial border.
