RSS meet: Discuss socio-political issues, expansion Wednesday, January 26 2005 13:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Key socio-political issues including the functioning and expansion of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) activities under the UPA (united Progressive Alliance) dispensation are expected to figure prominently at the All India General Council meeting of the Sangh in Mangalore beginning March 11.
All prominent Sangh Parivar leaders including those from BJP (Bharatiya Janata arty) and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) are expected to attend the three-day session, according to RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser'.
The weekly quoted RSS General Secretary Mohan Bhagwat as saying that the meeting will discuss at length various issues related to the Sangh and the country.
The agenda of the meeting includes review of Sangh work in 2004-05, discussion on expansion of 'Shakhas' and time bound implementation of the action plan for the birth centenary celebrations of second RSS Chief Guru Golwalkar, it said.
The RSS National Executive meeting in Haridwar in November last year was a stormy affair with VHP leaders boycotting the three-day event protesting the presence of BJP president L K Advani, who they alleged had abandoned Hindutva.
Bhagwat had later said that the BJP leaders had assured the RSS leadership that the party would return to the Hindutva fold.
