Pentamedia lose out second time at the 'Oscars' Thursday, January 27 2005 18:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
'The Legend of Buddha', a 2D film by Pentamedia Graphics, which was among the 11 films in contention for the best-animated film category at the Oscar Awards 2005, has failed to make it to the final list of last three.
"We could not make it to the final list of three films," Sumathi Sridharan, vice-president, Pentamedia Graphics Ltd, told sources in Chennai.
This is the second time that an animation film produced by Chennai-based Pentamedia is losing out at the Oscars. The company's 3D film Alibaba had qualified for contention at the Oscars in 2002, before failing to make it into the final shortlist.
The three final entrants in the animated film category are 'Shrek-2', 'The Incredibles' and the 'Shark Tale'.
The Legend of Buddha is a 2D animated film on the life of Prince Siddhartha produced at Pentamedia's studios in India, Singapore and Philippines.
"The unique feature of the film is the 2D animated characters brought to life by over 200,000 drawings supported by rich 3D animated backgrounds giving great depth on screen," a company official said.
Pentamedia has already done work for Warner Bros film 'King and I'. It has also produced the 3D animated films 'Sinbad - Beyond the veil of mist', 'Pandavas - the five warriors', Alibaba' and 'Son of Alladin'.
