SPG commando's weapon goes off at PM's residence

New Delhi: Causing a security flutter on Republic Day yesterday (Jan 26, 2005), the weapon of a Special Protection Group (SPG) commando, who is part of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's security set-up, went off "accidentally" at his official residence at 7 Race Course Road in New Delhi.

The incident took place nearly an hour after the Republic Day function, where Singh was present, when commando S P Singh was depositing his weapon at the end of his duty hour sometime between 12:30 hrs (IST) and 13:00 hrs (IST), police sources in New Delhi said.

The commando was hurt in his hand in the gunfire and was discharged after medical attention.
