Nicobar Islands continues to be rattled by a series of moderate intensity earthquakes after the tsunami struck about a month ago even as two such tremors were felt at Camorta Islands, the Met Department said.
The quakes measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale were recorded to have originated off east coast of Camorta at 10:35 hrs (IST) and 11:09 hrs (IST), it said.
About a dozen moderate intensity aftershocks shook the Islands since last night (Jan 27, 2005), with eight of them epicentered in and around the Camorta Island, the Department said.
The Nicobar Islands, one of the worst affected by the quake-generated tsunami disaster of last month, experienced ten moderate intensity earthquakes yesterday at frequent intervals, with the strongest being recorded at 5.8 on the Richter scale.
The region has been experiencing frequent aftershocks since the December 26 earthquake.
