School kidnappings: Bhagalpur observes bandh

Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur town today (Jan 28, 2005) observed a Bandh at the call jointly given by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Swadeshi Jagaran Manch to protest against the Kidnapping of Dipak Kumar, a student of a DAV public school in Bhagalpur, who remained traceless for the fourth day today.

Most shops and other business establishments downed their shutters and vehicular traffic was thin.

Banks, offices of Central and State Governments were open and attendance was normal, official sources said.

Activists of the ABVP and Swadeshi Jagaran Manch Stopped the Bhagalpur-Patna-New Delhi Vikramshila express for some time by staging dharna on the tracks at Bhagalpur Railway station.

Dipak Kumar was kidnapped while going to his school in the town on January 25. Two persons have so far been taken into custody by police for interrogation in connection with the kidnapping.
