Inquiry into accidental firing at PM's residence
Friday, January 28 2005 10:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Special Protection Group has decided to conduct an internal inquiry into yesterday's (Jan 27, 2005) "accidental firing" incident at the Race Course residence compound of the Prime Minister.

The matter has been taken very seriously considering the sensitive nature of the place and the officials involved in the incident, official sources said.

Prima facie it appears that the MP5 carbine of the SPG commando S P S Sirohi went off after it got stuck when he was checking it. He apparently did follow the blue book drill while trying to release.

Sirohi, who is on deputation from CISF is likely to be repatriated to the parent force, source said. Surinder Vikram, SPG commando injured in the incident who belongs to the SSB, was also likely to be sent back.
