Assault case: Madras HC grants bail to 3 accused Friday, January 28 2005 19:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Madras High Court today (Jan 28, 2005) granted bail to three of the six accused who had sought the relief in the Radhakrishnan assault case, in which the Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi, a co-accused, had already obtained bail.
Granting bail to Kannan, Bhoominathan and Kumar, Justice M Thanikachalam however rejected the bail pleas of Anand and Meenakshisundaram on the ground that they were not entitled for the relief as they had been booked under the Goondas Act.
The bail application by Laskhmanan, who was allegedly directly involved in the attack, was also dismissed by the judge, who held that ''it cannot be said that there was no material against him''.
Anand and Lakshmanan have been identified as the two who carried out the attack against Radhakrishnan, a former Mutt associate, his wife and an attendant, in the city on Sept 20, 2002.
