The anticipatory bail application filed by Kanchi junior Shankaracharya Vijayendra Saraswathi in an assault case was today (Jan 28, 2005) adjourned to February 4 for hearing by the Madras High Court, the court said.
Police should not arrest the junior pontiff till February 4, the court said while adjourning the petition by Vijayendra Saraswathi who apprehended arrest in the case relating to the assault of former Mutt associate Radhakrishnan in 2002.
Senior Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi has been arrested in the case and was later granted bail by the high court.
When the anticipatory bail application came up for hearing before Justice M Thanickachalam today, Tamil Nadu Public Prosecutor K Doraisamy sought adjournment by a week on the plea that the final report in the case would be filed by then.
The counsel for Vijayendra Saraswathi sought a court direction to the police not to arrest his client till then and the Judge pointed out that there was a standing order of the high court that a person who had applied for anticipatory bail should not be arrested till the plea was disposed of.
