Coimbatore:
There will not be any discrepancies in the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu after the process of revision is over in the State, Deputy Election Commissioner of India, A N Jha said in Coimbatore today (Jan 29, 2005).
Replying to a question on the 'missing' of large number of names in the list during the last Lok Sabha elections, Jha expressed confidence that this time there would not be any discrepancies.
"We have tried a foolproof mechanism and have taken special care on the issue," Jha told reporters.
Jha, here to discuss the summary revision of rolls and for feedback from the administrations of nine districts on the problems, said all districts in Tamil Nadu were gearing up for the revision of rolls, for which preliminary works would begin from Feb 1, 2005.
The commission has adopted a three-point strategy for the revision, like involving local bodies, E-registration and also elaborate verification and re-verification of entire list by involving political parties and public at large, so that no voter was left out, Jha said.
On ensuring that voters received ID cards, since large number of cards were lying unissued, Jha said first priority would be on completion of electoral rolls and then issuing ID cards.
The collectors of Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Karur and Thanjavur attended the meeting, in which the State chief electoral officer, Naresh Gupta and K R Prasad, Secretary, Election commission attended.
