Governor S C Jamir is creating panic: Goa BJP Saturday, January 29 2005 16:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Panaji:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Jan 29, 2005) accused Goa Governor S C Jamir of "creating an atmosphere of panic" in the State and charged him with taking partisan decisions to "favour a particular party."
"How can the Governor call people to Raj Bhavan and tell them what to do. I would not be surprised if instructions were coming to Raj Bhavan straight from 10, Janpath in Delhi," State unit chief Rajendra Arlekar told reporters in Panaji.
"He (Jamir) was on his way to Nagaland, but returned back to Goa this morning at the behest of Congress leaders, who had the audacity to call him back," Arlekar claimed.
Arlekar said it was not suited to the office of the Governor to act on the advice of one party only.
"We don't have a complaint against those MLA's who resigned from their seats. But we do take exception to the actions of the Governor," Arlekar said.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said, "As a Chief Minister, I cannot comment on the actions of the Governor, but I will say that I found his behaviour partisan. These matters cannot be decided on the lawns of Raj Bhavan. I can only hope that he abides by the Constitution of India."
"The Governor cannot accept the resignations of my Cabinet Ministers. It is I who have to accept them. Even if he does accept those resignations, he cannot act on them. The only proper platform is the floor of the Assembly," Parrikar added.
