'Third Front Govt can be formed with Left support'
Saturday, January 29 2005 20:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Claiming a Third Front Government could be formed at the Centre with Left support, Samajwadi Party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Jan 29, 2005) said his party would reconsider supporting UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government if the Congress continued to attack him.

"The Third Front can form a Government at the Centre any day if Left Parties so decide," Yadav told 'Aaj Tak', according to a press release from the news channel.

Threatening withdrawal of support to the UPA Government, he said, "I am not satisfied with Congress but I do not believe in blame game. I do not agree with Congress policies and if the Congress does not desist from harmful comments, we might have to reconsider our support to them at the Centre.

"If the Left Front decides, we will help them in the formation of a Government at the Centre," he told Prabhu Chawala in 'Seedhi Baat' programme. Samajwadi Party has 38 members in Lok Sabha.

However, he praised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a person who wanted to do a lot for the country but was not allowed by the Congress.

Rejecting demands for President's rule in Uttar Pradesh, he said, "The present condition is much better than that under the previous regime. We regret the killing of the MLA (Raju Pal of BSP) but this is because of the legacy of terror and lawlessness that we have inherited from previous Government."

He also brushed aside Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's remarks on crime situation in UP as "tantrums of a novice."

Asked about former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee favouring President's rule in the State, Yadav said he respected him but "belittled" the stature of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader.

He said Vajpayee's comments came in view of the BJP losing power both at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh.
