Goa: 'BJP will be allowed to prove its majority' Saturday, January 29 2005 21:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Panaji:
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) Government in Goa will be given an opportunity to prove its majority in the State Assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar claimed after a meeting with Governor S C Jamir.
Topping a day of hectic political developments when his Government plunged into trouble, Parrikar met the Governor and asked him to allow the BJP Government to prove its majority on the floor of the House.
"I have met the Governor this evening (Jan 29, 2005) and asked him to let me prove the majority on the floor of the House. He has agreed. It is now up to the Speaker to decide on a date for the show of the strength," the Chief Minister told reporters in Panaji.
"The Governor had to agree as I quoted the legal procedure in such a situation and cited the Constitution of India. I am ready to prove my majority as soon as the UGDP (United Goan Democratic Party) Legislator Mathani Saldhana returns from his official trip to Spain," Parrikar said.
"Pandurang Madkaikar (Transport Minister and BJP MLA) seems to be under duress to tender his resignation. This will also give us time to be clear of the matter," he added.
