'Dynastic politics' is a threat to democracy: BJP Saturday, January 29 2005 14:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ranchi:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Jan 29, 2005) stepped up its attack on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) charging it with nourishing and promoting dynastic rule in politics which was a threat to democracy.
''The Congress has a tradition of dynastic rule, and now the JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) and the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) are following its footsteps'', former BJP President Venkaiah Naidu said.
He was referring to the congress allotting tickets to the sons of four Congress MPs -- Bagun Sumbrai, Furkan Ansari, Chandrasekhar Dubey and Sushila Kerketta from Jharkhand and JMM leader Shibu Soren followed them by including Durga Soren and contemplating giving ticket to younger son Hemant from Dumka.
''This trend should be stopped as it is a threat to democracy. I believe the people will respond during this ensuing elections'', Naidu added.
He, however, said tickets could be given to any of a family only after he or she worked for the people for a considerable period.
Dismissing media reports that the BJP could extend a hand of friendship to JMM supremo Shibu Soren, Naidu said BJP was not so innocent that it would make the offer to a leader who changed his loyalty at the drop of the hat.
Stating that the period of four years was not enough to ''correct the wrongs done'' in forty years, he said the BJP deserved another term '' to carry forward its development works it has initiated after the creation of the state".
The BJP had recovered much ground since the April debacle, and the party leaders should concentrate on door-to-door and village-to-village campaigning, the BJP leader said.
Listing out the achievements of the NDA Government in Jharkhand, Naidu said the experiment of the UPA had ''flopped" with three Union Cabinet Ministers accusing one another.
''The JMM's Shibu Soren, the RJD's Laloo Prasad and the LJP's (Lok Janshakti Party) Ram Vilas Paswan have lowered the dignity of the Union Cabinet with their allegations against one another'', he said.
The BJP-63 and the JDU (Janata Dal-United) -18 are in alliance in ensuing Assembly election beginning on February 3.
