CPM not 'pet dog' but 'watch dog' to UPA: Yechury Saturday, January 29 2005 13:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Warangal:
Increasingly unhappy about UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government's economic policies, the CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist) yesterday (Jan 28, 2005) said that it was not a "pet dog but a watchdog" of the ruling alliance at the Centre and "will not hesitate to bite" if it is warranted.
Addressing a party rally in Warangal, party politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said, "Our party is not a pet dog but a watchdog, carrying out its duty towards the people. We will not hesitate to bite if the situation demands."
He said that his party would place its views before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the next meeting of the coordination committee slated for February 1.
