Monday, January 31 2005 10:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ahmedabad: The five-member Central POTA Review Committee (CPRC) team, "unaware" of the Gujarat High Court order "restraining" the high-powered committee's functioning, arrived in Ahmedabad last night (Jan 30, 2005) for a scheduled five-day visit to review cases starting today (Jan 31, 2005).

When asked if he was aware of the developments at the HC in Ahmedabad, Chairman of the committee S C Jain said that he was not aware of the orders passed by the High Court.

"I am not aware of the orders passed by the HC. We have not yet been intimated of any such development here. However, we will go through the order in detail tomorrow," Jain told awaiting media persons.

On being asked if they would review the IPC charges that were also slapped on persons accused in POTA cases, Jain said, "We will be reviewing only POTA charges not IPC charges in the case."

The CPRC is scheduled to look if the POTA charges slapped by the Gujarat Government are applicable in five of the eleven cases in the state namely the kill Modi plot case in which two alleged assassins from Mumbai were gunned down in 2003, Akshardham temple attack case, VHP (Vishwa Hindi Parishad) leader Jaideep Patel attempt to murder case, Memco blast case and Patel online case.

The team members comprise its Chairman S C Jain, Hemendra Kumar, S P J Sial, Gurmeet Singh and B S Garg.
