Handing over copies of chargesheet to be delayed? Monday, January 31 2005 20:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kancheepuram:
The handing over of copies of chargesheet to all the accused in the Sankararaman murder case may not take place on Feb 3, 2005 as was originally believed and as per the present indications, it might take place only by the middle of this month, according to official sources.
Court officials have confided that the process cannot be hurried. The mammoth 1873-page chargesheet cannot be read in such a short time. 'The case has to be first numbered, if we are to look for signs of chargesheets being given to the accused all at one stretch,' the sources said adding the numbering itself had not yet been done.
Besides, the extension of remand till Feb 10, given today (Jan 31, 2005) to accused Appu and six others, threw enough indications that the handing over of the copies might not take place before the middle of this month.
The chargesheet in the Sankararaman murder case, in which both the Seers of Kanchi mutt, Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi, have been cited as prime accused, was filed on January 21 in the Judicial Magistrate-I court at Kancheepuram.
