New Delhi: Lt Gen Madan Gopal today (Feb 1, 2005) took over as Director General Military Operations at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi.

Gopal, a hero of the 1999 Kargil operations replaces Lt Gen A S Bahia, who on promotion, has taken over as the Quarter Master General.

Commissioned into the Gorkha Rifles in 1967, Gopal has the distinction of having served in counter-militancy operations in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir as well as in the Northeast.
