Kanchi case: Junior Seer vows not to misuse bail
Tuesday, February 1 2005 16:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Kanchi Junior Seer Vijayendra Saraswathi today (Feb 1, 2005) filed an application in the Madras High Court seeking bail in the Sankararaman murder case after a Sessions court rejected his bail plea in the case on January 27.

In his application, he said dismissal of his bail plea had been done so by the Principal Sessions Judge, Chengalpattu, without "properly appreciating the facts, circumstances and judgment" of the Supreme Court, which granted bail to Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi in the same case.

The apex Court had considered all materials submitted to it by the prosecution and came to the conclusion that "prima facie a strong case has been made out for grant of bail," the Junior Shankaracharya said.

Vijayendra contended that the Chengalpattu Principal Sessions Judge's order dismissing his bail plea was "unsustainable in law and facts."

He said if the court granted him bail, he would not "misuse or abuse" his liberty or make "himself scarce or abscond."

The bail application is likely to be taken up tomorrow.
