Former MP Suraj Mandal arrested in Jharkhand

Jamtara (Jharkhand): Former MP and chief of the Jharkhand Vikas Dal (JVD), Suraj Mandal, was today (Feb 1, 2005) arrested in connection with manhandling a presiding officer during Lok Sabha re-polling on April 26, last year, the police said in Jamtara.

Mandal was arrested after filing his nomination papers from Jamtara Assembly constituency and sent to Deogarh jail.

The veteran leader had lost the Godda parliamentary seat to Congress candidate Furkan Ansari.
