Tuesday, February 1 2005 20:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized gutka worth Rs seven lakh from various parts of the State in the last two days as part of measures to enforce ban on sale of gutka in the State.

"So far we have not raided any of the pan shops and we are concentrating on wholesale stockists and manufactures," FDA Joint Commissioner N D Patil told sources in Mumbai today (Feb 1, 2005).

FDA raided several places in the State and confiscated gutka worth Rs 7,11,070, with maximum seizure from Pune division, he said, adding, gutka worth Rs 55,000 was seized from the metropolis.

FDA had banned sale of gutka in the State from January 30 after it was found that gutka and pan masala contained carcinogenic material, magnesium carbonate.
