Stop this murder of democracy: BJP on Goa crisis
Wednesday, February 2 2005 21:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Describing the dismissal of Manohar Parrikar Government in Goa as "murder of democracy," BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Feb 2, 2005) said it would meet President A P J Abdul Kalam tomorrow seeking his intervention in the matter.

"It (the dismissal) can be deemed an outrageous assault on the Constitution," BJP President L K Advani told a hurriedly convened press conference to express the party's anger at the action by the Goa Governor S C Jamir.

"The Governor's action is reprehensible and pre-meditated. I have no words to condemn this action," he said and demanded reinstatement of the Parrikar Government.

He said the action may have been taken in view of tomorrow's Assembly polls in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana.

Claiming the dismissal had been decided even before the Parrikar Government sought confidence vote in the Assembly, Advani said the Governor should have considered versions of both the ruling and Opposition parties before taking the decision.

The BJP has called an emergency meeting of its office-bearers late this evening to chalk out the course of action. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will also attend the meeting.
