Sr Seer's anticipatory bail plea posted for Feb 4 Wednesday, February 2 2005 14:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
The Madras High Court posted to February 4 the anticipatory bail application sought by Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi, who apprehended arrest in a case pertaining to tampering with records of the Mutt's accounts.
When the application, filed yesterday (Feb 01, 2005), came up today (Feb 02, 2005) before Justice M Thanickachalam, the Judge posted it to Friday (Feb 04, 2005) after the Government advocate sought the adjournment on the grounds that Tamil Nadu Public Prosecutor K Doraisamy was engaged elsewhere and was not available in Chennai and therefore could not attend the court.
In his application, the Seer apprehended that he would be "maliciously" and involved "falsely" in the tampering of accounts case with a "ulterior motive", after he had obtained bail in two other cases.
According to the police, certain pages from the Ledger book were allegedly torn or missing and were fabricated.
A case has been registered under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 463 (forgery), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 474 (having possession of documents knowing it to be forged).
On January 3, the Seer had obtained bail in the Radhakrishnan assault case and on January 10, the Supreme Court had granted him bail in the Sankararaman murder case.
An earlier anticipatory bail application in the Tirukottiyur Madhavan assault case is pending with the sessions court in Chennai.
