TADA court allows Sanjay Dutt to visit Kolkata
Wednesday, February 2 2005 16:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Subject to certain conditions, a special court has allowed Sanjay Dutt, film actor and accused in 1993 bomb blast case, to visit Kolkata today (Feb 2, 2005) and tomorrow (Feb 3, 2005) on a personal visit.

In a related development, the court exempted Dutt and 85 other accused from personal appearance till March 14.

Hearing the plea of Dutt's lawyer Farhana Shah, the designated judge P D Kode, on January 31, also allowed the actor to go to Kolkata to inaugurate a restaurant there.

The actor was, however, warned not to tamper with evidence or misuse bail conditions.

Designated judge P D Kode asked all the accused, who are on bail, to appear before him on March 14.

Sanjay is facing the charge of possessing an AK-56 rifle and destroying the weapon. CBI has alleged that underworld don Abu Salem had gone to his residence along with other accused to deliver the weapon.

The actor has denied the charges and the witnesses also did not support the prosecution's case.

CBI has examined 686 witnesses and the evidence has crossed 13,000 pages. The accused are charged with carrying out serial blasts on March 12, 1993, killing 256 people and injuring 713 others besides damaging property worth Rs 27 crore.
