Tsunami miracle: Nine rescued from Campbell Bay

Port Blair: A Miracle occurs once again in Campbell Bay Island where nine persons, including 3 girls and a woman, were rescued by a police search party yesterday (Feb 02, 2005) afternoon.

''A police search party consisting of 12 member yesterday located them at '39 km' area of Campbell Bay and brought them back to civilization at 19:00 hrs (IST),'' Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Prof Ram Kapse said last evening.

The vessel MV Jolly Buoy along with a police party was deployed for rescue operation on Western cost of Great Nicobar Island, he said.

During the course of rescue operation, nine Nicobarese (five males and four females, who included three girls) of Philibhabi area were rescued and evacuated to Campbell Bay from '39 kms' EW Road.

The Director of Information department Kuldeep Singh Ganger said that the rescue operation was conducted under supervision of B B Choudhary, Dy S P Campbell Bay and Inspector Shaukat Hussain, SHO, Campbell Bay.
